New Rochelle...Did You Know?

NEW ROCHELLE N.Y. - Did you know that Buffalo Bob Smith creator of "The Howdy Doody Show" moved to 195 Paine Avenue in New Rochelle in 1946?

Smith is also one of the sites on the "Walk of Fame" which recognizes famous members that once called the city home or had close ties to the Queen City of the Sound. Smith broadcasted his own radio show from his New Rochelle home, and then went into Manhattan for his "The Howdy Doody Show" in the evening.

The show ended up being recorded from Smith's basement while the musician recovered from a heart attack he sustained in 1954. Smith's children went to the Roosevelt School. He also ran a business in the city's Wykagl shopping center. The popular figure could also often be seen around town at schools, and events throughout the city.
