NEW ROCHELLE-- Bruno Zappa and Oscar Kremer wish they were able to be outside in the hot summer-like weather Friday, instead of in the cooling center at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center Friday afternoon.

"I like (the) outside," Zappa said. "I don't like cool air."

Kremer is another senior citizen who favors the outdoors during the summer.

“I love the heat,” Kremer said. “I like the natural air. It’s fine outside. Inside it’s artificial.”

Others, like Charlotte Perry and Inyene Bell, took to the pool at Lincoln Park as they do two to three times a week. “We had to come here to swim,” Perry said. “It’s too hot.”  The water serves as a remedy to her warm house. “It’s cooler to be in the water,” she said.

The center will be open as a cooling center Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. because of the ongoing hot weather. As of now, their is no plan to have the center open Sunday due to an anticipated drop in temperatures.

“We expect it to break,” Executive Director of the Aging Phillis Maucieri said.

Friday’s 101 degree temperature is predicted to drop to 79 at night. Temperatures Saturday are forecasted tobe a high of 96 with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms during the day. There is also a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms at night, where degrees will drop to 75.

Sunday’s temperatures will be in the high 80s in what will be the start of 80 degree days at the beginning of the week.

Three residents were without power late Friday afternoon, according to Con Edison’s outage map.
