NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. New Rochelle City Council members, officials from the Department of Public Works and the Albanese organization presented a bulk study during their second meeting since October.
Theres a lot of opportunity for the people of New Rochelle, said Jared Rice, New Rochelle City Council District three member
Chairman Richard C. Albanese and Executive Vice President George P. Aridas plan to extend the revitalization of the area south of Main Street in downtown New Rochelle. The new community will include the replacement of the Division Street Parking Structure, development of neighborhood-oriented retail and improvement of the overall streetscape according to a study handed out during Tuesdays Committee of the Whole City Council meeting.
The Albanese organization also hopes to increase the tax base over time, and address parking demand and related issues associated with a project of this type.
The project would be funded through Section 108 Loan Guarantee Program as part of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Council members had a variety of concerns including how the project would help downtown thrive. Members involved agreed to visit the proposed construction sites so all issues can be addressed. The city council also wants to gain a better understanding about whats being proposed.
We will move on this in the next few weeks, said Mayor Bramson about having concerns addressed. Theres no reason to wait.
No legislation will take place until at least the conclusion of visits, if at all, depending on the opinion of council members.
