New Rochelle Library Offers Summer Programs

New Rochelle, N.Y. - There's plenty to do this summer at the New Rochelle Public Library:

International Music and Dance: The library’s hit performance series, International Music and Dance, will be returning for its 29th season on six Tuesday evenings, starting July 3. All performances are free and begin at 7:00 P.M. Doors open at 6:30 in the 145-seat-capacity Ossie Davis Theatre.

Kicking off this year’s festivities is the Homegrown String Band, a group that's helping bring the rural sounds of early 20th century Americana to the 21st century. Rick and Georgianne Jackofsky, along with their daughters Erica and Analee, have been performing around the country since 1997. They've been described by the major music publication Sing Out as “Heartfelt, original, insightful, and impressive.” Modeled after the traditional family band, they feature a unique brand of roots music infused with a variety of instruments which includes fiddles and jaw harps.

Family Film Series: The 1961 comedy "The Absent-Minded Professor" will be the first in this popular film series that begins at the library Monday July 2 at 6 p.m. The event is free; seating is limited.
