NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. An estimated 50 attendees came out to the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and Young Professionals of Westchesters second networking event Thursday at the Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel.
New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Eli Gordon, Young Professional Committee chairman Rob Signore and a team of board members began the group to help young professionals of Westchester network with other people in similar professional situations.
"Theres really nothing for young professionals of southern Westchester, Signore said. The most number of jobs are taken by older professionals, and we're trying to make our presence known, he said.
Young professionals in attendance were able to make connections and learn tips on how to make the most out of networking.
Gordon wanted to inform young professionals with what the chamber does.
Ron Volper Group Managing Director Ronald Volper served as guest speaker for the event.
Volper discussed seven mistakes to avoid in networking, the best organizations to belong to, how to prepare for networking events, impromptu networking versus planned networking, developing a compelling elevator pitch, starting and ending a conversation to maximize your time and changing a networking contact into a customer.
Hotel general manager Danielle Stumpf, who helped put on the event with other hotel staff members, finds the networking event suitable for all.
It's great for all of the young people coming through on the corporate ladder," she said. "Its great for networking opportunities and getting to know what companies might be out there.
The next professional networking event will be in August.
