New Rochelle, Did You Know...?

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - That the British Army passed through the Ciity of New Rochelle on October 18, 1776 under Lord Howe?

A sign at the intersection of Mill Road and North Avenue reminds drivers of this significant event in history.

It was also along the same route that Common Sense Author Thomas Paine had a cottage along North Avenue in what is now a museum.

This time in history was also the same day the British fought in the Battle of Pell's Point ( or Pelham) and won.
