NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. New Rochelle will be looking for a new development commissioner when Michael Freimuth leaves to begin a new job Oct. 15.
Freimuth is returning to his native Hartford, Conn., to begin his position as executive director of the Capital Region Development Authority.
I grew up in that area and the position offered me an opportunity to go home and make a change, said Freimuth in an email.
Freimuths decision came in the past week after he had helped out the organization over the past several months.
Over the past two years, Freimuth was asked several times by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloys staff to join the organization.
Freimuth said he will always be fond of New Rochelle.
I love the City of New Rochelle and the people in New Rochelle, and have great appreciation for Chuck Strome as city manager and Noam as mayor, he said.
The city will do a full search for Freimuths replacement, Strome said. The new commissioner is expected to start in early January.
Employees in the Department of Development are welcome to apply for the position.
In the meantime, Strome will handle New Rochelles Armory restoration and Echo Bay waterfront redevelopment projects.
