New Canaan 8 Black Keeps Rolling

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan 8th grade Black hosted Wilton Blue Sunday at Dunning Stadium in New Canaan and came away with an impressive 24-7 victory.

New Canaan opened the game on offense and moved easily downfield. Emerson Logie ran for 21 yards and then completed passes to Drew Monroe and Andrew Jahns, the latter for 34 yards, to set up the first touchdown, a Jahns 3-yard run. Peter Swindell kicked the extra point and NC led 7-0.

Following solid hits by Logan Ritch and Monroe, Wilton was forced to punt. When a holding penalty wiped out a TD, Logie simply connected with Swindell on the next play for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Swindell kicked the extra point to make it 14-0. On defense again, a strong pass rush by Luke Salvati, Lucas Niang, Thomas Williams and Matt Hall forced Wilton into a hurried throw that Swindell intercepted and returned to the Wilton 32. It took the Blact four plays to increase the lead to 21-0. A 20-yard pass to Clayton Burt positioned a 1-yard Logie score as the first quarter ended.

Keeping the pressure on Wilton, the defense used strong tackles by Ritch, Williams, Jeffrey Murphy, William Arliss, Austin Alistor and Rafael Lovas to force another Wilton punt. A Jahns 10-yard run and a 48-yard pass to Shannon Smith set New Canaan up for a 20-yard field goal by Peter Swindell to close out the half at 24-0.

Offensive linemen William Hooks, Ryan Radecki, Casey Herzog, Hall, Niang, Ritch and Salvati controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the third quarter. Quarterback Logie mixed runs and pass completions to Jahns, Burt and Monroe to keep the ball out of Wilton’s hands. Wilton had one possession on offense in the third quarter.

The dominance continued into the fourth quarter with Anthony Pirrone and Aidan Buck providing blanket coverage when Wilton tried to pass, and then moving the chains on offense with a Buck run and a Pirrone pass reception. Wilton finally put together a scoring drive late in the fourth quarter to make it 24-7. The game ended with a sack by Ritch and Salvati. The win moved New Canaan Black's record to 5-0-1 on the season.
