Jean Cordero, also known as “Flaco,” age 35, had been wanted for murder following the Nov. 22, 2020 incident outside of the Fiesta Lounge in Passaic.
Witnesses told police they had been robbed and assaulted by a group of men, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman said. JuanManuel Marquez, 36, was found bleeding and unresponsive outside of the Parker and President streets nightclub at around 2:30. He died at the hospital before dawn.
Investigators identified Cordero as one of the men involved in the robbery and the person who stabbed the victim, Valdes said. A warrant was filed against him on Nov. 23, 2020, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Cordero was found in the Bronx by members of the United States Marshals Service and the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, and extradited to New Jersey on April 6, the prosecutor said. He is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Prosecutors have filed a motion for pre-trial detention, which will be heard by a Superior Court judge at a date and time to be determined.
New Jersey State Police named Cordero to their 2025 list of most wanted fugitives, noting he fled New Jersey the day after the Nov. 22, 2020 homicide, and has ties to Texas and California.
