Mt Kisco Senior Nutrition Program Gets $20k Grant

MT. KISCO—Many organizations and programs throughout the country have felt a tight squeeze on budgets lately, but today the Mount Kisco Senior Nutrition Program can breathe a sigh of relief.

Westchester County Legislator and Majority Leader Peter Harckham (D-Katonah) announced that the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services and New York State Community Services for the Elderly Program will award Mt. Kisco with a grant of $20,000 to help with programs that offer nutritional programs to seniors.

“I am happy we have received this grant along with the recognition that we have been consistently over-serving meals to the seniors in our community,” said Jean Arra, Nutrition Program Director of the Village and Town of Mount Kisco.

The Mount Kisco Senior Nutrition Program began in 1975. It provides hot meals on the weekdays at noon and also creates a place for people to interact. The program also can provide transportation within the town, weekly shopping trips, exercise classes and more.

“As municipalities face the challenges of shrinking financial resources, securing the proper funds for important services like the Mount Kisco Senior Nutrition Program becomes harder to accomplish,” said Harckham. “I’m grateful that both the state and the county recognize this and have stepped forward      with this grant, which will continue to offer a number of seniors steady meals and a healthier lifestyle.”

Lunches are served at the Fox Center on Carpenter Avenue in Mt. Kisco.
