Mr. Handyman Knows What a 'Know-Nothing' Doesn't

Pamela Nathe admittedly "knows nothing about construction or home repair." So when the resident of South Salem, N.Y., needs something fixed at her house, she calls Mr. Handyman. "They may not be the cheapest, but they come when they say they'll be there and they do what they say they will.

"I've had them several times, usually in the spring or fall," she said. "They've done a lot of general household repairs, like fixing pipes or replacing a bathroom fan."

According to Nathe, the key is to be specific about what kind of work you need done. "That way they can send the right person to do the job, who knows about that particular thing." Their knowledge is a perfect answer for someone who's an admitted "know nothing."
