Man Arrested in Pelham for Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend Pleads Guilty

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon man pleaded guilty to attempted murder Wednesday and was sentenced to 15 years in state prison, Janet DiFiore, Westchester County District Attorney, announced.

Jonathan Green, 39, was accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, 53, several times with a kitchen knife, which then broke and was left lodged in her back Aug. 3, 2011. The victim, who was leaving choir practice at the Greater Centennial Church in Mount Vernon, was treated at Jacobi Medical Center.

Green, who police said fled the scene, was arrested two days later in Pelham and charged with second-degree attempted murder, a class B violent felony. Green also reportedly left threatening messages on the woman's cell phone in the days before and after the attack.

Assistant District Attorney Amy Puerto, deputy chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau, prosecuted the case.
