Mount Kisco Elementary Holds Pancake Breakfast

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. —The Mount Kisco Elementary School held its annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, giving the fifth grade class an opportunity to serve the people of Mount Kisco to help their own cause.

With funds going toward their field trip and enrichment programs, the fifth grade threw on their waiter attire and took breakfast orders for three hours. The experience was one that not only helped monetarily, but also morally.

“It’s a great experience, it gives our fifth graders an opportunity to be in a leadership role and serve the community,” said Kweon Stambaugh, the assistant principal at the school. “It’s nice to have parents and families come in for a bit of a relaxed atmosphere.”

Michelle Hodge and Abigail Sarokin co-coordinated the event and are parents of boys in the fifth grade. Hodge knows the importance of such an event.

“This is their last year in elementary school, their capstone year, and they are leaders of this school,” Hodge said. “They do need practice doing this for when they go over to Fox Lane next year. We’re really excited they’ve been taking over the role of leader very well.”

The event is the second of three fundraisers for the fifth grade, with the car wash acting as the first. As with the first fundraiser, Sarokin believes that their little wait staff performed well.

“It’s great, because it gives them a sense that they’re working for their trips, along with a sense of community service,” she said. “They’re stepping up to the plate by being professional and not horsing around.”
