Most Bedford Homes Remain Without Power

BEDFORD, N.Y. - Judy Goodhue is one of a number of frustrated Bedford residents wondering not only when they will get their power back but when they will spot a utility truck working to turn the juice back on.

"We are without power, water and telephone service," Goodhue said.

Most residents in Bedford continued to be without power or water Monday.

Tropical Storm Irene touched down in the New York area early Sunday morning with heavy rain and high winds. It left behind a mess of fallen branches and power lines and an estimated 58,000 homes without electricity and running water.

According to NYSEG, 4,115 of Bedford's 6,629 homes were without power as of Monday night.

NYSEG is working on restoring power to all homes, however it is unable to give an estimated time for when the electricity will be back.

“People are aggravated and nervous because [they] are without water or electricity and don’t know for

how long, said Manny Claro of the Wooden Nickel Deli.

NYSEG is directing its customers to visit its informational website at http://www.nyseg.com/Outages/outageinformation.html. You can also call 1.800.572.1131 for information or to report an emergency situation. For natural gas emergencies call 1.800.572.1121.
