Monroe's Bourgault and Banks Commit to D-I Schools

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Marco Bourgault and Anthony Banks have joined their teammates Drimir Ferguson and Davon Marshall in committing to NCAA universities to play basketball now that their careers at Monroe have come to an end.

Bourgault will play for St. John’s University, while Banks committed to Longwood University in Virginia, his home state. Bourgault redshirted his freshman year at Monroe, which gives him three years of eligibility at St. John’s.

The 6-foot 6-inch guard from France averaged 10.8 points per game in 35 games in his sophomore season for the Mustangs. He shot 42.1 percent from beyond the arc, which placed him in the top 30 in the country in that statistic. Bourgault took 62.1 percent of all of his shots from three-point range. He also grabbed 4.31 rebounds per game.

"This is a great opportunity for Marco and for St. John's," said Mustangs Coach Jeff Brustad. "This means he'll have the time to adjust to the higher level of ball and be a significant contributor for them. Monroe fans know what a great shooter he is and that means he could become a cornerstone for the Red Storm attack.  He's a great kid and will be sorely missed around here, but we wish him much luck."

Banks did not redshirt his freshman year but was injured for most of it. He did return for the 2011 national tournament and helped take Monroe to a third place finish. In his sophomore year, Banks averaged 7.9 ppg and 5.7 rpg.

"Longwood is an excellent situation for Anthony because he'll be able to step in and contribute right away," Brustad said. "He's a high energy guy, who's got that great combination of being big and athletic. He also has a winning attitude, which served us well as we finished third and fifth in the nation during the two years he was with us."
