NORWALK, Conn. Construction on Monroe Street has been ongoing at the Metro North bridge but things are serious now. The road is completely blocked and the first stages of lowering the road are under way, with half of the pavement removed.
Sgt. Lisa Cotto, who was staffing the road closure Wednesday morning, said workers will do one side of the road and then get to work on the other side. Currently, pedestrians heading for the South Norwalk train station are on the same side of the road as the station. Later, they will have to cross the road to get to the detour and then cross back.
Heavy concrete barriers block much of the road, with an opening in the middle for construction vehicles. That might look obvious, but Cotto said that last week a taxi driver hit one of the barriers.
The road will be closed through Sept. 9, the Connecticut Department of Transportation says.
