A Darien man was rescued early Saturday after being missing for more than 12 hours. The man's father reported him missing at 3:34 a.m. after waking up and finding that his 55-year-old son had not returned home from his job at Trader Joe's, where he usually gets out of work at about 3 p.m. and walks through Selleck's Woods over the train tracks to his home on Silver Lakes Drive.
The man does not own a cell phone and suffers from medical issues. Police responded and began to trace his route back, shining flashlights and calling his name. They found the man on the ground near the train tracks. He said he had fallen on his way back from work at 6:30 p.m. and could not move or feel his legs. He had called for help, but nobody heard him.
The MTA suspended Metro-North service while the man was helped, and Post 53 responded to help carry him over the tracks. He remained conscious and alert. He was then transferred to Stamford Hospital after showing signs of hypothermia.
