NORWALK, Conn. It may have been looting, but Norwalk police don't know. Nothing indicates what broke the glass window at the Baci Deli at 133 Connecticut Ave. as Tropical Storm Irene blew through.
Chewing gum and cigarettes were missing in the burglary, which was reported at 6:16 a.m. Sunday. The cash register was open, ceiling tiles were askew and cooking oil was all over the floor, according to Sgt. James Boff. The detective bureau was investigating.

The theft of 300 to 400 feet of copper wire from Hocon Gas, at 133 Rockland Drive, was reported at 7:55 a.m. Monday. Thieves cut a 3-foot-wide hole in the stainless-steel fence to gain entry, Boff said, and went into an unlocked garage to take the wire, which was encased in yellow insulation.
A man who went to get tools to prepare for the storm Saturday afternoon was out of luck. The rear door of his business, at 89 Day St., was open and a window was smashed. Two Echo weedeaters, valued at $250 each; a Stihl cut off saw worth $1,800; and an Echo hedge trimmer worth $150 were missing.
The owner of Finish Master, at 17 Broad St., got a phone call from his alarm company at 3 a.m. Sunday but could not respond because of Tropical Storm Irene. At about 4:51 p.m., he went to his place of business and found the glass in the front door broken and a hammer on the ground. There was a shopping cart in front of the door.
