According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to the 900 block of Church Street around 10:02 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident. When officers arrived, they found the driver had been shot and then crashed.

The victim, identified by his parents as Lucas, was taken to Vineland Inspira Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:02 p.m., prosecutors said

As of press time, more than $6,400 had been raised on a GoFundMe by Lucas' family.

“Lucas, 17 years old, was a bright and shining light,” the family wrote. “He was a junior at Buena Regional High School, who was an honor student. He loved his family immensely. He was an amazing son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend.”

“His parents and siblings are left with unimaginable pain and voids. He had his whole life ahead of him, and losing him so suddenly has left us devastated.”

The GoFundMe is helping to cover funeral and memorial costs. Any remaining funds will go toward a college fund for Lucas’ younger brother, the family said.

“We appreciate your support, your prayers, and your kindness during this time,” they wrote. “Please share this fundraiser with others who you may think would want to help.”

No arrests had been made as of Monday morning. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Millville Police Department are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Vit at (856) 825-7010 or Detective Parker at (856) 453-0486
