POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Mildred E. Peters, of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, March 2 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 92.
Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Frederick E. and Jemima Robinson Decker.
On Jan. 14, 1946, at Holy Trinity Church, she married Francis J. Peters and they were together for 39 years until his death in 1985.
She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Peter's Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel. She was an avid contest seeker and winner entering many contests throughout the years and getting the whole family involved.
She baked for many years at the Dutchess County Fair and won numerous ribbons in the Culinary Arts Department. She enjoyed watching sports teams, especially the New York Yankees and New England Patriots. She greatly enjoyed the company of her great- grandchild, Lucas Bishop, and was anticipating the soon-to-be birth of a new baby, Bishop.
She is survived by her children, Glenn F. Peters and his wife, Kathy, of Hudson, Patricia A. Peters of Sagamore Beach, Mass., Michele A. Woodbury of Poughkeepsie, and Mary A. Peters of Pleasant Valley; five granddaughters, Bambi Bishop and her husband, Steve, of Hudson, Holly Peters and her fiancé, Greg Ward, of Troy, Jacqueline Woodbury and her fiancé, Sam Kassar, of Washington, D.C. and Virginia, Mollie Orlowski and her husband, Eric, of Poughkeepsie, and Amanda Woodbury of Poughkeepsie; and siblings Philip Decker, Elizabeth Bustamante, Frederick E. Decker Jr., Doris Lowenborg, Irene Barringer and Joan Wilkins.
She was predeceased by siblings Theodore, Earle, Donald, Shirley, Bruce and Frederick Irving Decker.
Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
