An investigation into Michael Schmitt began following a tip from National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that he was distributing child porn over a social media platform, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew Johns said.
Last month, detectives from the High Tech Crimes Unit of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office executed a search warrant at Schmitt’s Williamstown residence, Johns said. Several electronic devices belonging to Schmitt were seized, with the devices containing child pornography, as well as evidence he had posted them on social media, Johns said.
Schmitt is charged with distribution of child sexual abuse material and possession of child sexual abuse material, Johns said.
