STAMFORD, Conn. ? Michael Montecalvo, a World War II veteran who took part in the Normandy invasion, died on Friday, Oct. 28, at Stamford Hospital. The lifelong Stamford resident was 86 years old.
Known as Blackie, Montecalvo worked 46 years at the Genovese Supply Co. as a truck driver and shop steward. He also co-owned Andersons Carting Co. During the war he also took part in the battles at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
In his free time he loved to dance. He and his wife, Helen, would go to dancing halls all over New York and Connecticut.
Montecalvo is survived by his son, Michael L. Montecalvo and his wife, Judy; five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, his son Anthony M. Montecalvo, his daughter, Lisa Montecalvo, and two sisters, Agnes Sileo and Mary Anderson.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral procession will leave the parlor at 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday for a Mass at St. Bridgets of Ireland Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park.
