Michael Carroll, 46, of Brooklyn, was sentenced to four years in prison followed by two years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree bail jumping, Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy announced on Friday, July 10.

The case began on March 8, 2021, when a Putnam County Sheriff's deputy stopped Carroll on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley after seeing him commit multiple traffic violations.

According to prosecutors, Carroll gave the deputy a false name and date of birth during the stop. A search of his vehicle then led to the discovery of more than 1,500 methamphetamine pills along with pill fragments weighing more than two ounces.

After failing to appear in Putnam Valley Court on March 23, 2021, Carroll was indicted on a bail-jumping charge. Authorities eventually found and arrested him on Sept. 16, 2025.

Tendy said investigators believe the large quantity of methamphetamine may have been intended for sale.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Carroll also has numerous prior arrests and felony convictions.
