WILTON, Conn. Meredyth Hanks Davidson, a former Wilton resident, died at her home in Washington, Conn., on Aug. 1. She was 66.
Born in Orange, N.J., Mrs. Davidson spent her early years in Livingston, N.J., and then moved to St. David's, Pa. She graduated from The Booth School in 1964 and was a Main Line debutante. Mrs. Davidson graduated from Bennett College in 1966 with an associate of arts degree in science and fine arts. She continued her education in marketing and production management at the University of Akron.
Mrs. Davidson later attended both the Yale University Art Gallery and New York Metropolitan Museum of Art docent programs. She was active teaching in the "Art Goes to School" program of the Junior League of Bridgeport. Her particular artistic passion was dog portraits, of which Shetland sheepdogs were her favorite subjects. She was also an accomplished photographer.
Mrs. Davidson was a landscape design graduate of the Horticulture School of the New York Botanical Gardens, where she practiced landscape design for nearly 25 years.
Mrs. Davidson lived in Wilton 33 years and was active for several years in the Republican Town Committee and was a long-term member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. While in Wilton, Mrs. Davidson actively worked to prevent the development of a Super 7 highway through town.
She married John Patrick Davidson in June 1966. In 1971, their only child, Kimberly, was born. In October 1997, the couple ended their marriage. Mrs. Davidson settled in Washington in 2001, where she devoted her time to art and landscaping.
Mrs. Davidson is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kimberly Mueller, her son-in-law and two grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother, Robert S. Hanks of St. David's, Pa., and his wife, Leslie, and daughter Erica Virginia. She also leaves her nephews and a niece.
The funeral liturgy to celebrate her life, followed by a reception, will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 78 Green Hill Road, (Route 47), in Washington.
