A cooler, unsettled pattern is expected to arrive in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic just in time for the start of Memorial Day weekend, AccuWeather said.
The shift will follow a summer-like stretch to start the week, with temperatures expected to drop sharply across the region.
AccuWeather expert meteorologists say parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic could see temperatures tumble 30 to 50 degrees from the early-week heat. The change will bring clouds, showers, and a cooler feel, affecting many outdoor plans.
Saturday, May 23, is expected to bring the greatest risk for rain and disruptions from Washington, DC, to New York City and Boston, AccuWeather said. Travel, parades, ceremonies, and outdoor gatherings could be affected.
The unsettled weather is expected to linger into Sunday, May 24, in parts of the region, with showers and cloudy skies still possible.

Beach weather may also disappoint from New England to the Delmarva Peninsula. AccuWeather says temperatures near many beaches could run 5 to 15 degrees below historical averages.
Saturday highs will feel like the low to mid-50s in New York City and Boston, the low 60s near Albany and Washington, DC, and the mid-70s around Richmond.
Conditions are expected to improve by Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, though the holiday may not be fully sunny. AccuWeather’s Memorial Day forecast graphic shows mainly cloudy skies across much of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, with a chance for showers, especially farther south.
The higher thunderstorm risk on Memorial Day appears focused to the south and southwest of the region, while much of NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, MD, and VA should see a more manageable holiday forecast than at the start of the weekend.
Temperatures should be closer to normal by Memorial Day, with highs generally in the low to mid-70s.
