Call it a sign of the times. A tight budget has prevented the Wilton Parks and Recreation Department from fixing or replacing the marker leading into Allen's Meadows. But that may change now that the Norwalk River Watershed Association has received $5,425 for Meadows improvements.
The money was awarded as part of Connecticut's America the Beautiful Urban Forestry Grant Program. According to a release from the state's Department of Environmental Protection, the NRWA asked for the money to plant trees and for other improvements to the fields.
Signs may be put in place at trailheads and other places, but it was not know if the entrance sign would be part of that project, according to published reports. The enhancements have been in the works for a few years as part of the Allen' s Meadow Master Plan, but town funding was not available.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced on Thursday that the NRWA was one of 17 municipalities and non-profit organizations that received grants. According to the DEP's release a total of $75,925 was granted.
The NWRA tries to improve the quality of water and life in the watershed through research, education and cooperation.
