McMahon Routs Warde, But Star Attacker Hurt

After being stunned by Simsbury at home Monday in their first loss of the season, the Senators were eager to take out their frustrations on winless Fairfield Warde on Wednesday morning. McMahon beat up on the Mustangs early and often, including four first half goals by Scott McCormack, in the 12-2 win. But a scary moment early in the third quarter put everyone on the McMahon bench on edge.

McCormack was the early star for McMahon, racking up a hat trick in the first quarter and adding a fourth goal in the second. His day ended early, however, when chronic back issues flared up. He was lying on the turf for about five minutes before slowly getting to his feet. McCormack said he hopes to be ready for Saturday's showdown against Darien and was focused on the positives after his team's win.

"We just wanted to get the offense going and run all of our plays," McCormack said. "A lot of teams don't think much of us, and I think we're going to surprise a lot of people this year."

Ryan Scott stepped in to fill McCormack's hole, netting three second-half goals. Jack Conroy, Drew D'Antonio, Gabe Nardi-Huffman and Greg Watson also netted a goal each for the Senators.

McMahon threw its weight around, decking the Mustangs with some monster hits. While the Senators drew some penalties, they did not hinder the team. McMahon had no trouble knocking the ball loose from the Warde sticks and regaining possession.

"We have high expectations for this team. But some games we do things well, and then the next one we take steps backwards," McMahon head coach Mike Epstein said. "We still have the heart of our schedule to come and the true test is in front of us."

Brien McMahon will likely have its toughest test of the season when it takes on the top-ranked lacrosse team in the state, Darien, on Saturday. That game faces off at Darien High School at 2 p.m.
