The Brien McMahon High School boys lacrosse team found out firsthand Saturday why Darien is one of the top-ranked programs in the country. The upstart Senators put up a valiant effort against the Blue Wave, ranked 15th in the nation by Laxpower.com. But Darien's incredible patience and ability to strike at seemingly any time proved to be too much.
Darien led by two at the half but then scored five unanswered goals to quash any hopes of an upset. McMahon lost, 11-4.
Four Senators supplied the offense, including Zach Bartolo, Gabe Nardi-Huffman, Drew D'Antonio and Jack Conroy. McMahon goalie Luke Aubrey notched 12 saves.
McMahon falls to 5-2 on the year but is still in prime position in the Class L state rankings. The Senators have another test on their hands when they host Wilton under the lights Tuesday.
