At 6:39 a.m., Berlin Township police responded to McDonald's at 270 Route 93 after William Alvarado entered the restaurant and demanded cash, Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay and Berlin Township Police Chief Michael FitzGibbon said.
During the robbery, Alvarado kept his hands in his sweatshirt pocket, which led employees to believe that he was armed with a firearm, authorities said. After receiving money, he fled the restaurant on foot, authorities said. No firearms were displayed and no injuries were reported, authorities said.
Surveillance was used to track Alvarado from the restaurant to his vehicle and to his West Berlin residence, authorities said. He was apprehended and charged with robbery, authorities said.
