Mark Hayward Cannon, 32, of Highland, was indicted after an investigation into a physical attack at a hotel on US-9W in Lloyd at 3:56 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, according to the release. Troopers said Cannon repeatedly struck a 56-year-old woman, causing serious physical injury.
Cannon was arrested at 5:13 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, in the town of Poughkeepsie in connection with the assault, as detailed in the state police blotter. He pleaded not guilty when the indictment was unsealed in Ulster County Court on Friday, Nov. 21.
He was charged with the felony attempted murder, two felony counts of assault with intent to cause serious injury with a weapon, felony assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, and misdemeanor obstruction of governmental administration, according to state police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
His preliminary arraignment was held in Ulster County Court, and he was remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail, authorities said.
