The fire began in a first-floor bathroom at a home on 416 Maple Hill Dr., before spreading to the second floor and attic, according to Hackensack Fire Capt. Kurt Nemeczek.
Two hose lines were operated to extinguish the fire, and Hackensack Fire Department crews continued checking for hot spots as of about 3 p.m. Hackensack Fire Department First Platoon was on duty at the time under the command of Deputy Fire Chief Pete Greco, Nemeczek said.
The family was outside on the lawn when the fire broke out, and no residents were injured, Greco told Daily Voice.
One Hackensack firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for evaluation, Nemeczek said.
