Many Familiar Faces Join Darien's Races

DARIEN, Conn. – When Darien residents go to the polls Nov. 8, they will see many familiar names on the ballot. With 21 open positions in town government, only seven officials are not seeking re-election.

The biggest race will be for the Board of Selectmen, where all five positions are open. The three Republicans on the board – First Selectman Dave Campbell, Jayme Stevenson and Jerry Nielsen – are running as a team again, although Stevenson is seeking the first selectman spot while Campbell is running to be a selectman.

Facing them will be the Democrats John Lundeen, who is running for first selectman; current Selectman David Bayne; and Planning and Zoning Commissioner Vickie Riccardo. Current Democratic Selectman Callie Sullivan is not seeking another term.

Independent Chris Noe, a member of the Representative Town Meeting, is also running again for first selectman.

Republican Planning and Zoning Commissioners Susan Cameron and Reese Hutchison are looking to serve another four-year term. Democrat Kevin Cunningham will be running for Riccardo's open spot.

Board of Finance Chair Liz Mao, a Republican, is seeking re-election, as is Democrat Gwen Mogenson. Republican and former chair Murry Stegelmann has decided not to seek another four-year term. Republicans have selected James McLaughlin to run for his spot.

The three town constables, Democrats David Morgan and William Slinsky and Republican Joseph Tarnowsky, are all running for another two-year term. The Republicans have also selected Louis Calastro to run for one of the three spots.

Board of Education Chair Kim Westcott, a Republican, is not running for another three-year term. Republican Michael Anton Harman will be running, as will current Republican member Morgan Whittier and current Democrat member Heather Shea.

Four Republicans – Town Clerk Donna Rajczewski, Treasurer Joan Hendrickson, Tax Collector Robert Locke and Board of Assessment Appeals Chair Richard Dolcetti – are all running unopposed.

You can register to vote in person at the registrar of voter's office in Town Hall, or download a registration form off the town's website and mail it in. You can also download an application for an absentee ballot if you will not be in town for the election.

If you are unsure of your polling place, check the directory on the town's website to see which district your street is in. District 1 votes at Ox Ridge Elementary, District 2 votes at Town Hall, District 3 goes to Holmes Elementary, District 4 votes at Hindley Elementary, District 5 votes at Darien High School and District 6 votes at Tokeneke Elementary.
