Man Held in Norwalk Woman's Stabbing

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk woman was stabbed multiple times with a hunting knife early Thursday after getting into an argument with the father of her toddler over discipline she had given the child. The 30-year-old victim is in stable condition at Norwalk Hospital. Norwalk Police say the father incriminated himself with comments made immediately upon their arrival to Washington Village, where the pair live.

Christian Vasquez, 30, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and two counts risk of injury. Bond was $500,000. Vasquez gave his the location of his mother's home, 71 Melrose Ave, Bridgeport, as his address but police say he lives in Washington Village with his family.

Police were called to 403 Washington Village at 1:48 a.m. for a report of a woman bleeding heavily. Vasquez was sitting on a cement wall when police arrived and spontaneously said something that led police to believe he was a suspect. He had blood on him.

Police say the couple had a fight in their kitchen. Lt. Thomas Roncinske said the victim was stabbed in the side and on the face with hunting knife that had a blade at least 4-inches long and a handle with groves for fingers. He said the wounds were the type that would be inflicted during a rage.

Vasquez was unhappy with the discipline she had given their 2-year-old son, he said. The victim's daughter was also in the apartment. She is Vasquez' stepdaughter.

Vasquez does not have a criminal record and has no past history of violence, Roncinske said.
