DARIEN, Conn. A Mississippi man was charged with urinating in a trash can in the Darien police station lobby, police reports said.
According to police reports, William Jones, 38, of Columbus, Miss., was in Darien selling magazines for Liberty Sales, a Houston-based company. Police said that Jones had a solicitors permit, but it was revoked on Aug. 1 because he had another person working with him selling magazines, which is a violation of the permit.
The day after the permit was revoked, police said Jones was caught on surveillance video urinating in a garbage can in the lobby of Darien police headquarters. Police said he then left and entered a waiting van before he was apprehended.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody by police in Stratford, where he was staying in a hotel. He was charged with breach of peace, a misdemeanor, and released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 14.
The following was also reported in the Darien police blotter:
Michael Hansum, 57, of Ridgefield, was charged with stealing vehicle roof rails from the Land Rover dealership in Darien. Police said that on July 15 somebody reported seeing a man standing on some items and leaning over a fence at the dealership, which was closed at the time.
According to police, the witness saw the man take a large box measuring 8 feet long and place it in his car. The witness wrote down the license plate of the car and police determined that it was registered to Hansum. Police said that when contacted, Hansum admitted to the theft and returned the stolen items. A warrant was issued for his arrest. He was charged with fifth-degree larceny, a misdemeanor, and released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 14.
