Man Charged With DWI After Wall Wreck

A Madison man who police say crashed his vehicle and tried to avoid blame was arrested last week and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Douglas P. Sheridan, 45, of Evarts Lane, faces charges of DWI and evading responsibility after crashing his vehicle into a rock wall near a home on White Oak Shade Road at about 9:50 p.m. last Tuesday, police said. The wall, a mailbox and grass were damaged, but no one was injured. Officers were dispatched to the scene. Away from the accident site, officers spotted Sheridan running toward them. Police said Sheridan told officers that he had a flat tire and denied he had been in an accident. During this conversation, police detected the odor of alcohol on Sheridan's breath. He was given a field sobriety test and arrested.

Sheridan was released on $300 bond and is scheduled to appear Nov. 15 in Norwalk Superior Court.
