Hernon Aponte of Norwalk was arrested Friday, Aug. 6, and charged with stealing a motor vehicle. Wilton Police Officer Steven Rangel was at a Shell gas station on Route 7 in Norwalk when Aponte exited the station and headed for a nearby Starbucks. Rangel said Aponte seemed nervous passing his vehicle. Rangel got out of his patrol car to go to the convenience store at the gas station when another individual informed him that Aponte, 22, of 18 Fairfield Ave., had been in a stolen vehicle. The individual was an acquaintance of the vehicle's owner, according to the police report. A foot pursuit began and Aponte hid in the woods behind the Starbucks. He came out when Rangel took out his Taser and threatened to use it. Rangel detained Aponte until Norwalk Police could pick him up.
