Man Busted Tailing Armored Car

A Stamford man who allegedly followed guards as they made their rounds in an armored vehicle was arrested last week. The first time the guard encountered Willie Baldwin, 60, of Ludlow Street, was at about 9:45 a.m. last Wednesday in the Government Center lobby near an ATM machine, according to police.

Baldwin stuck his finger in the side of one of the guards and said that he had a gun and intended to rob the guard. The guard was initially alarmed, but soon realized Baldwin was using his finger, not a gun.

The guard dismissed Baldwin's behavior and left the building to service the next account, which was a supermarket on West Main Street, according to police. While at the supermarket the guards again saw Baldwin. This time he called 911 and reported the incident, relaying to police Baldwin's license plate number.

Baldwin left the area, but he was located and detained several blocks away. The guard who had the original encounter with Baldwin went to the spot where he had been detained and positively identified him, according to police. The guard noted something else: The place where Baldwin had been located was the next scheduled drop point.

Baldwin was taken to the Stamford Police Headquarters and charged with first-degree breach of peace.
