Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy received two big endorsements at the same time Wednesday in his campaign for governor. For the first time, the Stamford Police Association and the Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association came together to endorse Malloy, a Democrat.
"Dan Malloy has been an ardent supporter of police officers throughout his career. He has always made public safety his top priority," said Sgt. Joseph M. Kennedy, president of the police union.
Firefighter Brendan Keatley, president of Local 786 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, echoed Kennedy's feelings. "Dan Malloy has taken action in support of first responders by investing in new equipment and making sure our emergency services were up to date."
Malloy thanked the police officers and firefighters assembled, saying, "It's crucially important that we support these men and women and give them all the resources they need to do their jobs."
Malloy is running against Republican Tom Foley in the Nov. 2 election for governor. A Quinnipiac University Poll released Oct. 15 put the race at Malloy with 49 percent of the likely vote to Foley's 42 percent.
