Police are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident with information they believe will assist in the investigation to contact the Wayne Police Detective Bureau at 973-633-3530.
There is no type of ongoing threat to the mall, police said.
Wayne Police Capt. Dan Daly said police received reports of shots being fired after a fight broke out in the food court and that multiple people were seen fleeing the area just after 7 p.m.
Numerous Wayne Police units, along with officers from several other agencies, responded to the scene, Daly said. Investigators determined that a physical altercation led to a single shot being fired, Daly said.
Officers did not find any victims, though multiple individuals were detained as part of the investigation, Daly said. Police said the situation was under control as of 8:55 p.m., but the investigation remains ongoing.
