Mahopac resident Craig K. Streeter, 73, was reported as possibly missing on Monday, Aug. 17, New York State Police announced on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The search began after New York State Forest Rangers found Streeter's recreational vehicle at campsite 36 on Moose River Rd. in the town of Inlet with no known recent activity.
Forest Rangers searched for Streeter but could not find him, prompting more law enforcement agencies to join the effort, according to State Police. The multi-agency search remains active.
Investigators determined Streeter was last seen on Sunday, Aug. 2, at a Stewart's Shop in Indian Lake, where he was wearing a dark-colored long-sleeve shirt and jeans. He left the store in his RV and was also last heard from that day, police said.
According to State Police, Streeter frequently travels and camps in remote areas, and it was not unusual for him to go periods of time without contacting others.
Police said there are no indications of foul play as of now.
Authorities are now interested in hearing from anyone who may have encountered Streeter while camping or traveling along Moose River Road or in nearby remote camping areas. Anyone with information is asked to call New York State Police at 518-897-2000.
