“Her Nature” features work by Wendy Alvarez, Pallas Athene, Patricia Bolgosano and Amanda Lynne. Their styles span many genres: from painting and drawing, to photography and mixed media.
Athene creates mixed media constructions using only found material including grasses, feathers, leaves, insect wings, bees’ nests, tree bark and other natural objects.
Bolgosano is a photographer whose creative process starts when something catches her eye. She is fascinated by color, shape and the way natural light illuminates our world. Her works entitled “Sunflower” and the “Blue Aster” series, are examples of the way she vividly transforms organic imagery.
Lynne has always felt a strong connection with plants and animals, and is fascinated by the intense beauty they possess. All of her work is painted on upcycled discarded wooden furniture including table tops, drawer fronts and cabinet doors.
Palm fronds are the “canvas” upon which Alvarez creates her three dimensional artwork. Birds, flowers and complex patterns are painted onto the fronds, altering the natural material in a playful and imaginative way. Her art is influenced by the philosophy and work of Navajo and Apache artists with whom she spent time many years ago.
