New Canaan wide receiver Kevin Macari and offensive lineman Conor Hanratty earned first team All-State honors Wednesday from the Connecticut High School Coaches Association.
Macari caught 60 passes to lead the Rams to the Class L championship game. He led the state with 20 touchdown receptions and averaged 20.98 yards per catch. He had 11 catches in a 28-27 loss to St. Joseph, and had 10 more in the 50-20 loss to Masuk in the Class L championship. Macari's 25 total touchdowns tied a team record set in 1969 by Lemuel James.
Hanratty, who has signed to attend Notre Dame, is regarded as the nation's No. 3 recruit for a guard by a national scouting service. His father, Terry, formerly played quarterback for the Fighting Irish.
Quarterback Matt Milano made the Class L All-State team. Defensive lineman Ryan Shullman and linebacker Kevin McDonough also earned Class L honors.
Besides Macari and Hanratty, other players from the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference on the All-State team were Staples linebacker Rob Gau and punter Jason Mawicke, Darien's Charlie Kunze, St. Joseph running back Tyler Matakevich, Ridgefield offensive lineman Tommy Jordan and Trumbull defensive back Phil Terio.
