Ludlowe Baseball Falls to Greenwich

Fairfield Ludlowe’s pitching was there on Wednesday, but the Falcons could not pick up enough runs to defeat Greenwich. Despite a five-hit, two-run performance by Ludlowe starter Alex Wright and three hitless innings by reliever Taylor Brown, Greenwich managed a 4-2 win in eight innings Ludlowe has now lost two straight and three of its last four after a 9-0 start.

The Cardinals struck early with an RBI single in the first by Kevin Collins, but Wright got out of the bases-loaded situation without further damage. Ludlowe then took the lead in the bottom of the inning with an error by Greenwich second baseman Yuta Okazaku, followed by an RBI double from Tom Nagy. The Cardinals tied it up with an unearned run off Wright in the fourth.

After Wright was pulled in the fifth, Brown maintained the 2-2 tie. The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but two strikeouts by Matty Clarke stranded the potential winning run on second base. Greenwich then picked up three straight hits to start the eighth off Ludlowe’s Zach Garoffolo. The rally included Andrew Van Eyck’s go-ahead double and an RBI single by Ryan Brennan.

"Our pitching today actually did a very good job," Ludlowe head coach Keith O'Rourke said. "We played eight innings and the other team scored four runs. With the  way we swing the bat, we're supposed to win a game like that. "

The Falcons, now 10-3, play Trinity Catholic Friday at Kiwanis Field.
