Ludlowe Baseball Earns Eighth Seed

Coming off of the first FCIAC baseball title in Fairfield Ludlowe history, the Falcons were named an eighth seed in the Class L state tournament, which begins on June 1. Ludlowe will face FCIAC-foe Darien at home at 4:00 p.m. Darien slipped into the tournament with an 8-12 record, barely winning the 40 percent of games necessary to participate.

The Falcons, who went 15-8 during the regular season, have not won the state tournament in their short history, but did lose in the finals to Milford's Jonathan Law High School in 2006. Two starters from that team remain, catcher Rob Ferrera and outfielder Tom Nagy, who was named the FCIAC tournament most valuable player.

"There have been so many great moments throughout the course of the season and what's more exciting is that it's not over yet," Ludlowe coach Keith O'Rourke said after the FCIAC title victory against Greenwich on Thursday. "Hopefully there is another two weeks to come."

Fellow Fairfield high school Fairfield Prep also qualified for the state tournament in Class LL and was seeded No. 18. Prep will play at Manchester at 3:30 p.m. on June 1.

Rivals Fairfield Warde did not qualify the tournament, finishing the season with a 7-13 record. Notre Dame-Fairfield did not qualify or the Class S title after a 7-13 season.
