Michael and Alex Lord made it look easy Thursday at the Pilot Pen Tennis Family Classic finals. The Wilton duo won the Father and Son 14-year-old division with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rajiv and Karan Narula of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., at the Yale Tennis Courts.
"We played well,'' said Michael, who plays with his son out of Four Seasons Racquet Club in Wilton. "We were able to take control of the net and I think that was key. Alex was also serving really well."
"It's always nice to win with my dad,'' Alex said. "It's a lot of fun whenever we play together."
The Lords defeated six teams in the regionals and four more in the sectionals to make it to New Haven. Michael said that although Thursday's match was important, he and Alex tried to keep it in perspective.
"It wasn't just another tennis match, but you have to treat it that way,'' Michael said. "You just go out to do your best and hopefully play well and let the chips fall where they may."
The Lords have known for nearly a month that they would be playing in the finals. "Once we got to the finals. we didn't know what to expect,'' Michael said. "We practiced a little bit, but mostly we just played."
