The rain this week is showing no signs of letting up, and that means Fairfields streets could be flooded Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service issued two statements for lower Fairfield County on Tuesday night: a flood watch and a coastal flood advisory.
The flood watch, in effect now and until late Wednesday night, applies mostly to areas near streams and rivers and to streets prone to flooding. What the National Weather Service calls a nearly stationary storm will hover over the area and dump 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain on Fairfield County.
The coastal flood advisory, in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday, will affect Fairfields beachfront. The rain, combined with winds of up to 16 mph, will cause water level to rise up to 18 inches higher than normal, according to the National Weather Services predictions. The flooding will be worst at about high tide, which will be 12:03 a.m.
