No time. Although that's an excuse often used for postponing or avoiding learning new skills, Ferguson Library wants patrons who've put off acquiring basic computer knowledge to make time in August for a series of free classes. "I think that it's very, very helpful for us to provide the public with the option of taking a class once a month," said Information Services Librarian Elaine Krikorian. "Our librarians are very skilled, and we want to share information with the public."
The classes are offered every month, with slight variations, to accommodate individual schedules, said Krikorian. Each class is self-contained and focuses on a particular set of computer skills such as Internet basics, or a specific program such as Excel. Patrons may repeat a class as often as they wish, or request instruction in a particular area.
Six classes will be offered in August. They are Internet Basics on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; Learn ESL on the Computer, Saturday, Aug. 7, 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Excel, Thursday, Aug. 12, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; Computer Basics, Saturday, Aug. 14, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; Microsoft Word, Thursday, Aug. 19, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; and Basic Email in Spanish, Saturday, Aug. 21, 2 to 3:30 p.m.
All classes are in the second-floor computer lab. Registration starts July 26. For more information, call (203) 351-8221.
