Local "Storytellers" Unite in Rye

RYE, NY - The Rye Free Reading Room hosts lots of interesting programs for the greater Rye community. However, none of them are quite as unique as the Rye Storytellers Guild.

"The guild's goal is to share not just stories for adults, but to also share practical sources of material for child related programs, since many of us make a living being in front of children" said Ellen Kaplan who has been a part of the guild for twenty years.

Kaplan, preschool cooridinator at the Rye YMCA, also performs every Wednesday morning in the Rye Free Reading Room's "Wiggles and Giggles" program. Tuesday night's theme of "story songs" featured stories with musical elements that appeal to children.

"We always invite nursery school teachers when we have a program specifically designated to material for children," Kaplan added.

The Guild, which meets in the Rye Free Reading Room on the first Tuesday of every month, is open to both storytellers and listeners alike.
