On Sept. 7, the Wilton Library will host local author James King, who will share details of his new novel, "Bill Warrington's Last Chance."
King, who writes novels on the side, works as a freelance writer. He has had his work appear in the New York Daily News, the San Francisco Chronicle and many other periodicals. The novel will be the first of King's to be published; he has written three others that were not published.
According to the library, the novel is about Bill Warrington's attempt to make amends with his estranged children after finding out he has Alzheimer's disease. During his journey, he kidnaps his 15-year-old granddaughter, April, who learns of her grandfather's disease and takes it upon herself to reconcile the family.
King, a Wilton resident, received the 2009 "Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award" for the book, and he has received praise from other authors, including Sue Monk Kidd who wrote "The Secret Lives of Bees."
"Perhaps one of the best things you can say about a novel is that the story lingers after you finish it. I have gone on thinking about this one without trying," Kidd said.
The talk will take place in the Brubeck Room, and refreshments will be served. A book signing and sale will follow. Registration is required for the event.
