Lil Jon's Missing Son Nathan Smith Found Dead

A body recovered from a Georgia pond is believed to be that of 27-year-old Nathan "DJ Slade" Smith, the adult son of rapper Lil Jon, police said.

Milton, GA officers responded to a report of a missing adult on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the area of Baldwin Drive in Milton, Georgia, authorities said. Officers determined that Smith had left his home under unusual circumstances and could not be located, they said.

Police immediately launched a search and coordinated with multiple partner agencies over the following days, officials said. When Smith could not be found, search teams expanded their efforts to include a pond at Mayfield Park near his residence.

On Friday, Feb. 6, at approximately 11:53 a.m., divers with the Cherokee County Fire Department located and recovered a body from the pond, police said. The individual is believed to be Smith, pending official identification by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police said there is no indication of foul play based on the investigation so far. The Milton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division will continue to treat the case as open and active until the medical examiner determines the official cause and manner of death and all investigative leads are reviewed.

Smith has been identified by family and public records as the adult son of Grammy-winning rapper and producer Lil Jon, drawing national attention to the case. He graduated from NYU in 2020, social media shows.

Lil Jon, known for "Turn Down for What" and "Yeah!" with Usher and Ludacris, has not publicly spoken about the case.
